AI Fortune-Telling Gains Ground Among Young Thais

An AI fortune-telling app is shown open on a smartphone screen.

A digital shift is transforming Thailand’s spiritual landscape as artificial intelligence becomes a popular tool for fortune-telling among younger generations. Where people once waited weeks for appointments with traditional seers, many now turn to AI platforms like ChatGPT to receive instant birth chart readings, palm analysis, and compatibility advice. The trend is especially strong among Gen Z, who are drawn to the accessibility and affordability of AI-generated spiritual guidance.

Social media plays a major role in spreading this phenomenon. Platforms like TikTok and Instagram are filled with tutorials on how to input birth details into AI tools, how to format palm or face photos for readings, and how to interpret the results. Users often post reaction videos or share AI’s predictions with friends, adding a layer of entertainment to what is still seen by many as a meaningful ritual. These posts often go viral, reinforcing the trend and creating a cycle of interest and experimentation.

Behind the popularity is a deeper generational shift. Many young Thais are seeking ways to regain control in a time marked by social uncertainty, economic stress, and political change. AI fortune-telling offers emotional relief and structure, helping users frame their hopes or fears within a familiar spiritual context. For some, AI becomes a daily habit—a way to check in with the universe before making decisions or facing difficult days.

The economic appeal is another factor driving growth. A traditional Thai fortune teller might charge 500 to 600 baht per session, while AI tools are often free or available for a small fee. With the spiritual economy in Thailand valued at over $300 million, the entry of AI opens the door for more people to participate without the financial or logistical barriers that come with traditional practices. This democratization of spiritual services is changing the way these experiences are consumed and shared.

However, the rise of AI in spiritual life raises several concerns. Unlike human advisors, AI lacks emotional intuition and cultural sensitivity. Algorithms can only replicate patterns based on data, and critics warn that spiritual insight involves more than calculations. Privacy is also a major issue. Many platforms require users to upload personal information, including birth times and facial photos, without clear safeguards on how this data is used or stored. As AI tools become more sophisticated, so too do the ethical questions about their role in deeply personal matters.

Despite these concerns, AI fortune-telling continues to grow in popularity. It reflects how modern Thais, especially the younger generation, are redefining spirituality on their own terms. They are blending ancient beliefs with modern technology, using digital tools to find answers once sought in temples or traditional parlors. Whether viewed as a passing trend or a sign of lasting change, AI’s presence in Thailand’s spiritual scene signals a new era where faith and algorithms coexist.

Thailand Unveils AI-Powered Police Robot for Public Safety

Thailand has introduced its first AI-powered police robot, named AI Police Cyborg 1.0, during the annual Songkran festival in Nakhon Pathom. This move signals a new chapter in the country’s approach to public safety, blending artificial intelligence with real-time surveillance to support human officers. The robot, developed under a collaboration between Thai law enforcement and local tech partners, is designed to monitor large crowds and assist police during major events. It is equipped with AI-driven cameras that provide 360-degree surveillance and can detect potentially dangerous behavior such as fights or theft. One of the key features of AI Police Cyborg 1.0 is its facial recognition system, which is capable of identifying individuals flagged in criminal databases. If the system detects someone considered a threat, it automatically alerts nearby officers through a centralized Command and Control Center.
