Apple and Anthropic Join Forces to Build AI Coding Assistant

Apple is partnering with artificial intelligence startup Anthropic to develop a powerful AI-driven coding assistant aimed at enhancing the software development process. The tool, currently under internal development and referred to as "vibe-coding," is being designed to assist developers by generating code, suggesting edits, and automating tests within Apple's integrated development environment, Xcode.

This collaboration marks a significant shift in Apple’s approach to AI. Historically, Apple has preferred building its software tools in-house, maintaining tight control over its platforms. However, with the pace of AI innovation accelerating, the company appears to be opening the door to external expertise in order to keep up with rivals. Anthropic, known for its Claude family of large language models, brings advanced generative AI capabilities that Apple is looking to leverage within its development ecosystem.

The coding assistant will be powered by Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet model, a large language model similar in function to OpenAI's GPT or Google's Gemini. Apple is currently testing the assistant internally, but has not yet announced whether it will be released to the public or remain an enterprise-only tool.

Apple's interest in AI coding tools is not new. The company previously introduced a similar concept called Swift Assist, an AI-based helper for the Swift programming language. However, Swift Assist was quietly shelved before launch due to concerns about reliability and its potential to hinder rather than help developers. The new collaboration with Anthropic could be an opportunity to overcome those limitations with more advanced AI models and a renewed strategy.

The move also places Apple in more direct competition with tech giants such as Microsoft, which has gained significant traction with GitHub Copilot, and Google, which has integrated AI tools into its own development environments. According to a McKinsey report, AI-powered tools could increase software engineering productivity by 20 to 45 percent, highlighting the potential benefits of such initiatives.

For Anthropic, the partnership offers an opportunity to deepen its commercial reach and align with one of the most influential players in consumer technology. While the startup is still establishing itself in a crowded AI market, collaborations like this with Apple add credibility and open doors for broader adoption of its Claude model.

The integration of AI into software development is expected to grow rapidly over the next few years. As Apple continues to explore generative AI, the success of this coding assistant could pave the way for further AI-driven features across its platforms. From Xcode to iOS and macOS, the potential for streamlined development powered by AI may soon become a standard part of Apple's toolkit.

Thai Students Launch AI Study App Making Real Impact in Classrooms

A student answers a quiz on the RevisionSuccess app, which uses AI to adapt study materials to individual learning needs. (Image credit: RevisionSuccess ) A group of high school students in Thailand is gaining national attention for creating an AI-powered study app that is helping their peers learn more efficiently. The app, called RevisionSuccess, was developed by a student team led by 16-year-old Phonlawat "Beam" Sirajindapirom, an incoming student at the Chulalongkorn School of Integrated Innovation, Chulalongkorn University. The app is designed to convert study materials into personalized quizzes and flashcards using artificial intelligence, offering a smart and adaptive learning experience tailored to each user's needs. The idea for RevisionSuccess came from the students' own experiences with exam preparation. They wanted a faster and more effective way to review content and found that existing tools were either too basic or time-consuming. With the help of AI, ...

Thailand Unveils AI-Powered Police Robot for Public Safety

Thailand has introduced its first AI-powered police robot, named AI Police Cyborg 1.0, during the annual Songkran festival in Nakhon Pathom. This move signals a new chapter in the country’s approach to public safety, blending artificial intelligence with real-time surveillance to support human officers. The robot, developed under a collaboration between Thai law enforcement and local tech partners, is designed to monitor large crowds and assist police during major events. It is equipped with AI-driven cameras that provide 360-degree surveillance and can detect potentially dangerous behavior such as fights or theft. One of the key features of AI Police Cyborg 1.0 is its facial recognition system, which is capable of identifying individuals flagged in criminal databases. If the system detects someone considered a threat, it automatically alerts nearby officers through a centralized Command and Control Center. The robot is also programmed to distinguish between real weapons and harmless...
