Foodpanda to Exit Thailand by May 23, 2025

Food delivery platform foodpanda will officially shut down its operations in Thailand on May 23, 2025, according to an announcement by parent company Delivery Hero. The company said the decision is part of a broader strategic shift aimed at concentrating on markets with stronger long-term growth potential.

Delivery Hero, based in Germany, has operated foodpanda in Thailand for over a decade. The app was one of the earliest players in the country’s online food delivery space and played a key role in shaping consumer habits, especially during the pandemic when demand for delivery services surged.

The company has not disclosed the exact number of employees, riders, or restaurant partners who will be affected, but said it will work to ensure a smooth transition and support for those impacted. Users have been advised to complete all pending orders and use any available promotions before the May cutoff date.

Despite the exit, Delivery Hero confirmed that its regional team based in Thailand will continue operating to support other markets in the Asia-Pacific region. This suggests the company is not pulling out of Southeast Asia entirely, but rather refocusing its efforts on countries where it expects better returns.

Foodpanda's exit leaves a significant gap in Thailand’s food delivery market, which has become increasingly competitive with players like Grab, LINE MAN Wongnai, and Robinhood gaining ground. Industry analysts believe the remaining platforms will quickly move to absorb foodpanda’s customer base and restaurant partners.

This is not the first market foodpanda has exited. Delivery Hero has previously withdrawn from other countries as part of its efforts to balance profitability and market presence in a crowded delivery landscape.

The closure marks a major shift in Thailand's food delivery industry and signals the growing challenges faced by global platforms trying to sustain operations in diverse and rapidly changing markets.
